2024 Head Football Coaching Changes

Region 1

Baldwin County - Scott Rials leaves Baldwin County after four seasons in Bay Minette with a record of 14-27. His tigers qualified for the playoffs once in 2021 and finished with an 8-4 record. His one playoff victory with the Tigers is the only one for them since 2003.

In 27 seasons with five different schools his overall record is 185-111 with 21 playoff victories. His 2011 squad at Elba won a 2A state championship with a perfect 15-0 record. This will be the seventh different head football coach in Bay Minette over the past 20 seasons.

2024 Season - Andrew Davis gets his first head coaching job at Baldwin County. Davis played football at and graduated from Daphne High School. He attended Delta State and graduated from Auburn in 2010.

Coach Davis worked at McGill-Toolen and Gulf Shores before serving four seasons at Daphne. He spent 2017-2019 on the staff at Baldwin County, three seasons at Elberta and last year was the quarterbacks coach at Spanish Fort.

Region 2

Park Crossing - Ty Lockett leaves Park Crossing after just two seasons with a 3-16 record on the football field. The relatively new program was very successful out of the gate back in 2014 winning 38 games their first four seasons but have only finished the past six seasons with a total of twenty victories. This will be the fifth head football coach at the school since they first played varsity football.

2024 Season - Charles Biggers begins a new era at Park Crossing as the head football coach. This will be his first head coaching job after serving as the head football and wrestling coach at McKee Middle School. He will bring a new excitement to the football program as he works to rebuild the still young program. After the program began strong just ten seasons ago they have struggled the past few seasons.

Region 3

Calera - Jerad Holder had just one season in Calera as his team posted an 0-10 record in Class 6A region 3. The Eagles have had one winning season over the past six years and need to bring some stability to the program. Since the move up to 6A they are just 16-46 in 6 seasons. This will be the ninth new hire in Calera over the past twenty football seasons.

2024 Season - Scott Rials arrives in Calera in hopes of rebuilding the football program there. Although his teams at Baldwin County found the going tough he does have a track record of winning and sustaining a successful football program in the past at Elba and Luverne. His overall record is 185-111 in 27 seasons as a head football coach at South Montgomery Academy, Elba, Luverne, Satsuma and Baldwin County.

The community is in hopes Coach Rials can bring stability to an up and down program in Calera.

Chilton County - Marvin Morton parted ways with Chilton County after just two seasons at the helm with an 8-12 record and no playoff appearances. Both his squads finished with a 4-6 record. Coach Morton was also the head coach at Billingsley in 2018 with a 5-6 record.

The Tigers have not won a playoff game since 2012 and only two since 1987. This will be the seventh different head football coach over the course of the last twenty seasons in Clanton.

2024 Season - Eddie Wall has been named as the next head football coach at Chilton County as we enter the 2024 football season. Wall spent the last six seasons as the defensive coordinator at Leeds High School and this will be his first head coaching job. Wall also spent time at Clay-Chalkville High School as the defensive line coach prior to Leeds. He is a native of Oak Mountain where he played football.

Region 4

Brookwood - Mike Bramblett leaves Brookwood after five seasons with a record of just 12-38. His overall records stands at 22-88 at four different schools in eleven seasons as a head football coach.

The last season the Panthers won more games than they lost was back in 1999. Since that time they have seen six different head coaches come and go from the football program.

2024 Season - Chris Foster leaves Priceville after five seasons with an impressive 40-18 record. He took the team to four playoff appearances winning a playoff game each time. Coach Foster turned around a struggling football program winning eight games his first season in Priceville.

His 40 victories are the most by a head coach at Priceville and his four playoff wins are the only ones in school history. Foster is a Brookwood native and will once again be tasked with turning around a struggling football program at Brookwood.

Paul Bryant - John McKenzie leaves Paul Bryant after only one season with a 3-7 record. In late July he accepted the head coaching job at Vigor a school he has previously coached.

2024 Season - Christion Jones

Region 5

Jackson-Olin - Walter Jordan leaves Jackson-Olin after just one season that saw his team finish a disappointing 0-10 on the field.

2024 Season - Joe Webb the former UAB quarterback has been hired as the head football coach at Jackson-Olin High School. Webb attended the Ensley High School from 2001-2004. He transferred to Wenonah for his senior season and enrolled at UAB in 2005. He went on to enjoy a ten-year NFL career that saw him play for the Panthers, Bills, and Texans, among others.

Mortimer Jordan - Dustan Goode stepped down as the head coach at Mortimer Jordan after a dozen seasons at the school. He leaves as the coach with the most wins at the school in their history. He also led the Blue Devils to some of the best seasons in their history including a spot in the 2015 state championship game against St. Paul's. He leaves with a record of 80-41 for the Blue Devils and eight trips to the playoffs.

2024 Season - Heath Lauderdale was promoted to the the head coaching job in May for the Blue Devils. Lauderdale has been the assistant head coach the past two seasons at the school. He has 16 years of coaching experience, including a five-year stint as the head coach at Susan Moore where his teams finished 31-22 between 2017-2021. His 2019 team completed a perfect 10-0 regular season before finishing with a record of 11-1.

Region 6

Pell City - Rush Propst leaves Pell City in about the same place he arrived just one season ago. His team did show marked improvement and played most opponents tough but could only manage a single victory after being forced to forfeit their win over Center Point.

2024 Season - Nick Gentry was named the next head football coach at Pell City following Rush Propst's resignation. Pell City looked inside the current coaching staff and named defensive coordinator Nick Gentry as the team's new head coach. Gentry is a former Alabama Crimson Tide player and was a defensive lineman on the 2009 and 2011 BCS National championship teams. He also has coaching experience on the staffs at UAB, Jacksonville State, Tennessee and the USFL before joining the staff at Pell City last season for one year.

Pinson Valley - Gentrell Eatman after rebuilding the Woodlawn football program over the course of three seasons could not find the winning formula at Pinson Valley and was dismissed following the 20223 football season. His line squad finished 4-6 losing in the first round of the playoffs.

The Indians won three state championships between 2017-2020 but have failed to find that winning edge since. Since 2016 when Patrick Nix left for Central Phenix City the Indians will be searching for their fourth head coach in five seasons.

2024 Season - James Thompson accepted the head coaching job at Pinson Valley in February. He was previously the head football coach at Carver Montgomery for three seasons between 2018-2020 and Pickens County 2015-2017. His Tornadoes fell in the state championship games in 2016 and 2017. His overall record as a head coach is 50-23 in six seasons.

Clay-Chalkville - Drew Gilmer leaves Clay-Chalkville after seven very successful seasons. His 2021 and 2023 teams finished with undefeated seasons and a state championship. Each of his teams qualified for the playoffs and all but one (2022) reached the third round of the playoffs. His 81-12 record is nothing short of amazing in his first eight seasons as a head football coach.

2024 Season - Stuart Floyd quarterbacked the Clay-Chalkville to a 12-3 record and state championship in 1999, earning All-State honorable mention as a senior. He was the offensive coordinator for the Cougars from 2011 through 2016. After the 2016 football season he spent two seasons at Hewitt-Trussville before moving on to Mortimer Jordan.

Floyd served as an assistant for the Blue Devils and head coach for one season in 2021 and one year as the offensive coordinator at Springville before returning to Clay-Chalkville in 2023.

Region 7

Decatur - Aairon Savage stepped down as the head football coach at Decatur in January after just one season leading the program. His only team finished a disappointing 3-7. A school know for coaches with long tenures will be out to fill the spot soon.

2024 Season - John Ritter moves on to Decatur after spending the last six seasons as the head football coach at Russellville. Each of his teams reached the playoffs and had a combined record of 52-19. In eleven seasons as a head coach his teams have an overall record of 85-42 and all but one qualified for the playoffs. His previous head coaching jobs were at Red Bay for two seasons and West Morgan for another three before landing at Russellville.

Hartselle - Bryan Moore leaves Hartselle after four successful seasons leading the football program to accept the head coaching job at Opelika. His record at Hartselle was 38-9 with four consecutive playoff appearances. Two of his teams in 2021 and 2022 finished the regular season undefeated winning a region title each season.

2024 Season - Bert Newton takes over the head coaching duties from Bryan Moore after serving as defensive coordinator and associate head coach last year at Hartselle. He previously was at Vestavia Hills for one season as an assistant coach. Newton spent four years as the defensive coordinator for the Tigers. He built the Tigers defensive unit into a dominating force during his time at Hartselle.

Region 8

Southside Gadsden - Miles Holcomb leaves Southside after just three seasons with an 18-15 record. His last team shared a tie for the region championship but fell to Boaz 10-7 in the first round of the playoffs. In five seasons as a head coach at Southside and Crossville his teams have finished a combined 26-28.

2024 Season - Ben Stewart was hired as the next head football coach at Southside in March. He will be tasked to continue the success of Coach Holcomb last season. Stewart was the offensive coordinator at Oxford the past three seasons. He spent time as an assistant at Springville, his alma mater, and Hillcrest Tuscaloosa before Oxford.

Hazel Green - Charlie Wilburn will not be back with the Trojans in 2023 as the school will be seeking new leadership on the football field this season. After just two years and a 4-17 record Hazel Green will be looking for someone to finally post a winning season and win their first ever playoff game.

The Trojans have only enjoyed a single winning season over the past eleven years but hope those fortunes will be turned around soon.

2024 Season - Fred Farrier in his last coaching stop was an assistant coach at Alabama A&M where he coached the running backs. Farrier also spent time as the head coach of Kentucky State and Morgan State. Farrier played college football at Holy Cross where he was a receiver.
